Yesterday was Simulation Day at my girl’s school. All the 2nd and 3rd graders spent the entire day as Ohlone Indians would have before all the foreigners came to the area.
They dressed as authentically as they could, played Ohlone games, and ate Ohlone-type food — mostly berries ans some seed cakes. They even went hunting, with parents acting as deer (Tomas was told that she was a very good huntress!).
This picture was taken before they drew on her tattoo; a really cool symbol that she had designed. I’m not sure I quite understood why, but it was put on her chin — go figure.
She came home happy and exhausted, but so thrilled to share the adventures of the day
